How to take ownership of a File or Folder in Windows 7?

Sometimes you may come across the situation where windows doesn.t allow to rename or replace a file/folder....if you are facing the same problem then this post is just for you.


Just follow these steps to take ownership of a file/folder:

 

You must be logged in as ADMINISTRATOR to claim ownership:
1. Right-click on the file/folder and Click "Properties"


2. Goto "SECURITY" tab and then click "ADVANCED" below.

3. In Next window that opens click on "OWNER" tab and then click on "EDIT".


4. Select your User Name by clicking on username or select from "Other users or group" tab.


5. Now click on "Apply".
5. A "Windows Security" dialog box will open.Click "OK"


6. Click "OK" below in "OWNER" tab
7. Now click on "EDIT" back in the "SECURITY" tab.


8. A new window will appear Select your User Name by clicking on username or select from "Other users or group" tab.Mark (check) the checkbox next to the "FULL CONTROL" and below "ALLOW".Click "APPLY".

9. A "Windows Security" dialog box will open.Click "YES".


10. Click "OK" and you are done.
 


Now you have authorization to rename/replace the file/folder.
